How These 3 Cost Effective Brake Upgrades Will massively Improve Stopping Power....

The Following 3 Brake upgrades will significantly assist in helping you stop faster, have a better pedal feel, help with fading and heat management. These Mods are easy to install and wont break the bank. Lets begin shall we?

Brake Fluid - Mod 1 of 3: This upgrade is not going to make any difference to your immediate stopping power. By upgrading the brake fluid to that of a higher specification and effective heat range you are preparing your breaking system to resist overheating or boiling of the brake fluid. This is called fluid fade and it essentially causes a spongy brake pedal and a decrease in the effectiveness of your braking system, the hotter the fluid gets the worse your problem becomes. The Dot 5.1 costs between R340-R400 and is well worth the money.

By upgrading your fluids from the Standard Dot 4 fluid to a Dot 5.1 fluid your brake fluids boiling point is raised, therefore your brakes can get much hotter before you run into fading issues. Liqui-Moly has an example on your trusty Dot 4 which works perfectly fine but for the sportier driver Dot 5.1 should be on your list of brake mods, which brings us to the mod number 2!

Stainless Steel Brake Lines - Mod 2 of 3: And now we get to the upgrades that can be felt from the moment they are installed, and what will be felt immediately after installing Stainless Brake lines is your pedal feel will be sharper and more precise, you will notice that your pedal feel seems more refined and that's because it is.

The standard brake lines are rubber and over time become soft and more pliable, what this does is cause inconsistencies when you apply the brakes and the reason is your lines that are made from rubber expand and contract, think of it this way, rubber lines are like sprinting in sandles, and the Stainless Steel lines would be like sprinting in a pair of Nike trainers. The Trainers will feel better under your foot, respond better to your inputs and perform more consistently. This Chase Bays Kit costs between R1300-R1600 and completes the second brake upgrade.

Upgrade Sport Pads - Mod 3 of 3: And we arrive at the final brake upgrade which will yield the the biggest improvement in your braking system. There are many pads to choose from, ranging from sport to race pads, depending on what your intending to do with your vehicle, if it will only be for street application then a great Example is the EBC Red Stuff and Green Stuff pads which will perform excellently in street conditions and some mild track usage.

If you are looking at doing the monthly track day and want a killer brake pad to withstand hard lap after another but need the drive-ability without much compromise of comfort during your day to day driving when your pads are not hot then the EBC Yellow stuff pad is superb, they do not require warm up but get even stronger under the heat of hard driving. Yellowstuff pads are not low dust and if you require a low dut premium pad then consider the Redstuff pad! The pads range from roughly R700 for green stuff and up to R1400 for a set of yellow stuff pads.

The Green stuff pad is a mild upgrade from your factory pads and essentially they will be better in every way than your standard pad, they will produce less brake dust, be more resilient to pad fading, improved cold friction, improved hot friction improved lifetime and these are all great for the sport street driver. The Red Stuff pad is similar and outperforms the Green Stuff pad in every way and this is great for the more serious street user.

In most track scenarios your brakes are put under alot of constant punishment at high speed from corner to corner and as your brake temps go up if you are running a street only pad you will most likely run into serious brake fade and find yourself stopping to cool down the brakes more often than you would like. This situation is were the Yellow stuff pad (Street/Race) will excel at the track providing up to 30% greater stopping power and then on your drive home, they feel just as great as your standard factory pad.

In Extreme Racing conditions the cars will run nothing but the most extreme pad possible to handle extremely high temps for extended periods of time and these pads are not suitable for the road and are potentially dangerous!

Lets sum it all up! So you want a significant brake upgrade that is seriously going to improve your cars stopping power, improve brake fade and heat management without braking the bank on a big brake kit, then this is for you! For Just R2350-R3400 you can make a huge difference in how well your car stops, manages heat and manages break fade and while doing that sharpening the pedal feel and doing so consistently.
