What is Software/Remaping?

Okay, so sit down and focus while i try my best to explain this in the most simple way possible. Your vehicle has an engine, the engine has a brain which control's abselutely every function that surrounds the engine. Are you with me?

Without going way to much in depth, that brain in many many different ways controls the 3 very important phases that an engine goes through to produce power, Air and fuel in, air and fuel combusts, and the bi product of that event is exhaust gass which needs to leave the vehicle out the exhaust system. Still with me?

With software remaping we alter the way the engine executes the first 2 steps being the air and fuel in phase and the combustion of the air and fuel phase.

As said before it controls these two phases in many different ways to insure they happen with utmost efficieny for the target power your manufactorer would like the engine to achieve.

On Naturally aspirated engines not much can be done for power gains, the two main values that are changed is ignition timing, which is the point at which you want the fuel and air to combust and the air to fuel ratio which should be self explanitiory, its how much fuel do you have per how many parts of air. By optimising these two values we can extract abit more out of the non turbo engine, also in some cases the standard software has more room for improvement than other motors therefore that engine will benefit more from a remap and usually improv fuel economy considerably du to a more effciently running engine better suited to the climate it operates in. However in some cases you will find that the engine has the ability to produce for example 190kw but the manufactuer would like to use the same motor in a lower spec model, instead of going through the costly procedure of making a new motor they simply take the 190kw engine and de-tune it to a lower 160kw power output with software and remaping. What is excellent about that is if you happen to have the 160kw version that is a detuned 190kw motor, we can remap the vehicle to produce 190kw and a little more. The vehicle we are talking about here is 160kw BMW 125i coupe with the detuned version of the 190kw BMW 130i motor. So yes if you remap a 125i you end up with a 130i and a little more. such is the case with the 450hp c63 amg that has a detuned 512hp black edition engine which has been detuned for the tamer amg and held back for use in the more hardcore black edition.

Will your non turbo car benefit from a remap?
What about turbo cars?

Success! IF we dont get back to you in 15min you get 5% off immediately!

So Back to our explanantion of of the 3 pahes that an engine goes through to produce power, air and fuel in, air and fuel combusts, and and fuel gets expelled.

The first ever turbo charged production car came along in 1962, a motor called the jetfire was turbo charged and used in the oldsmobile jetfire and a modified version of that setup was used in the chevrolet corvair monza spyder which was released a month later, powr was significantly increased over the non turbo version of the motor. However the reliability of these two setups ere unreliable and production stopped a year later. 11 years later bmw had a go at turbo charging in the legendary BMW 2002 but due to excessive turbo lag, safety concerns and the oil crisis production also stopped a year later. At the height of the oil crisis porsche decided to have a crack a boosted cars and thye rolled out a 911 turbo, since then th majority of 911's produced since 1974 have been available with turbo charged engines. As Technology has evolved most modern cars have adopted the turbo charged method due to the fact that turbo charged engines make more power and they are much much more efficient.

So why do turbo charged engines produce more power? Well put simply an engine is an air pump, and the more air you can force into it the more power it produces. So were does remaping come in? As we mentioned before, the engines brain is in control of many things and on a turbo charged car one of those things is boost preasure or the amount of air that the turbo sends the engine. Again as we mentioned above the more air you can cram into the engine the more power it makes. so if your vehicles turbo is pushing 1.0 bar of preasure into your engine and this results in your ngine producing 100kw, in theory if you increase the boost preasure by 30% your engine should produce 30% more power which is why remaping a turbo car makes such a significant difference. However this is just a rough estimate every engine has its uniqe design features which wil effect the outcome of a 30% increase in boost preasure. This is Also a very rough explanation of turbo car remaping as there are many many other things we change to increase efficiency, add power and ultimately reduce fuel usage as well. So dont think its just that simple, it requires a very savy individual who is well in tune with how every cars engine works to be able to succesfully and eliable tune an engine. That ladies and Gents is why we are here!
